Welcome to our Primary Care Service at the UC Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. We are dedicated to offering high-quality, compassionate care for your pet from the moment they join your family through all stages of their life.
Our mission is to provide preventative services including vaccinations, parasite control, nutrition counseling, oral hygiene management, pn assessment and management, behavior advice and annual physical examinations as part of our commitment to comprehensive primary care. Our service offers new puppy and kitten evaluations, outpatient illness and injury treatment, weight management consultations for pets needing help with mntning their optimal weight, as well as performing outpatient small mass removal surgeries.
Our dental cleaning services ensure the oral health of your pet while we offer specialized care for senior pets, who require additional attention due to age-related changes.
During a visit to our Primary Care Service, you will speak with the senior veterinary student assigned to your case. They may call you one day before your appointment to review any preliminary information about your pet's medical history. Upon arrival, they'll meet with you and provide you with information on what services are due today for your pet.
The student will conduct a thorough physical examination followed by consultation with our clinicians who provide comprehensive care plans. Our team of veterinarians conducts another physical exam and then collaborates to determine the best next steps based on their findings.
While this comprehensive approach offers valuable learning opportunities for our senior veterinary students, it may ext the time required for your appointment compared to a traditional primary care clinic. We recomm allowing 90-120 minutes for routine visits with potential need for additional time if more extensive care is required.
Please understand that while we're equipped to provide comprehensive care at this facility, certn situations might require referral to specialized services within our institution or external specialists as needed. For such cases, please contact the corresponding specialist services directly.
In case of an urgent medical situation, please seek immediate attention from your local emergency veterinary hospital.
We offer a variety of pet health information sheets on common issues like allergies and diabetes in pets, which can help you manage their health at home more effectively.
